Allergica, part of the Bio-Light Group, has signed an agreement with Tel Aviv University for research on the new allergy drug being developed by the company to take place in the laboratory of Prof. Ronit Sagi-Eisenberg at the university.
Cooperation with the TAU laboratory, which will cost approximately $200,000, is intended to facilitate the completion of the research and development of the pharmaceutical. Prof. Sagi-Eisenberg, a recognized world expert in the field of allergy research, initiated the research on the new drug and has been a consultant to Allergica since its inception.
Joining the team is Dr. Dana Baram, who specializes specifically in the mast cells which are the cause of numerous allergies. The drug that Allergica is developing has already undergone clinical trials on laboratory animals, and has been tested on human cells, and has thus far been found extremely effective against allergic reactions. The company expects to begin initial clinical trials on human patients in 2007.
